Student Registration and Exams
Policy on Student Registration
All midwifery students in Alberta must be registered with the College of Midwives of Alberta in order to undertake any part of their educational experience in the province. Student membership entitles a student to perform the authorized practices comprising the clinical practice of midwifery under the supervision of a qualified supervisor.
To qualify as a student, a person must be:
enrolled in a midwifery undergraduate program or a midwifery bridging program approved by the College of Midwives of Alberta;
enrolled in a midwifery undergraduate program or a midwifery bridging program that has been accepted for assessment for approval; or
enrolled in a midwifery education program for indigenous people in the Canadian North, to be dealt with on a case by case basis by the College.
Annual student registrations are due each September, prior to the start of any clinical placements. Payments may be made by cash, cheque, or by email transfer to info at albertamidwives.org. If mailing please mail to : 119E 1144 29 Ave NE Calgary T2E 7P1

Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam (CMRE)
The CMRE is the required National Pre-registration examination for all New applicants to Canadian Jurisdictions. The CMRE is typically scheduled for May and October of each year. To ensure registration is at the Canadian Midwifery Regulators Council (CMRC).
Next CMRE date: October 29, 2020
These exams are held in Calgary. Registration and payment of $750 fee should be sent to:

Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE)
The OSCE is the practical examination required for Internationally Educated Midwives. The next examination is to be determined. Please contact the CMA office for more information.
